Transformers: The Last Knight will feature a familiar face

Transformers: The Last Knight will feature a familiar face -- the Autobot Hot Rod.

Director Michael Bay revealed the sequel will include an updated Hot Rod, aka Rodimus Prime, by sharing a photo of the character's new look online.

"Time to turn up the heat. Meet Hot Rod. #transformers," he announced Thursday. Bay also directed and produced all four previous installments in the live-action Transformers film series.

Hot Rod debuted in the 1986 animated film Transformers: The Movie and subsequently appeared in the TV series The Transformers. Judd Nelson voiced the Autobot in the film, while Richard Gautier took over for the show.

Transformers: The Last Knight will also feature an updated Camaro form for the returning character Bumblebee. In addition, the movie will introduce the new Autobot character Squeeks.

Transformers: The Last Knight stars Mark Wahlberg and Isabela Moner and opens in theaters June 23, 2017. The film franchise has earned over $3.77 billion at the box office thus far.
