Former Ohio Rep. Steve LaTourette, a Republican known for his self-denying brand of politics, died upon Wednesday at the age of 62 of pancreatic cancer.
LaTourette was elected to Congress in 1994 as portion of a GOP answer that flipped the House of Representatives to Republican control for the first epoch in 40 years. Once he allied Congress in 1995, LaTourette hired humor columnist Dave Barry to minister to as his the stage press secretary.
He would side moderately upon issues including labor, health and social facilities, but voted more conservatively upon issues when abortions and firearms. Though he voted adjacent-door door to connected-sex marriage legislation at the forefront in his congressional career, LaTourette in 2015 signed a real brief urging the Supreme Court to create it legitimate.
Due to his even temper and deep knowledge of House rules and measures, leaders in the House would often call upon LaTourette to oversee combative debates occurring in the House.
When LaTourette left Congress in 2012, Ohio Republican Rep. Patrick Tiberi praised LaTourette's bipartisan nature during a speech.
"It didn't issue who you were or what you were roughly or if you had an "R" or a "D" by your state gone esteem to Steve," Tiberi said. "If he believed in your cause, he was your abettor and he was going to obtain every within his execution to make appreciative that cause, that business, was going to be solved. He didn't always win, but he surely went all along vacillation every period he took that cause happening."
LaTourette was diagnosed as soon as pancreatic cancer in 2014. He is survived by his wife Jennifer and six children, Sarah, Amy, Clare, Sam, Emerson and Henry.
